Structured, one-on-one lessons built around your goals — from someone who has played on world tours, live albums, and chart records across South Africa and beyond.
Freeman Gumede picked up the bass in 2010 and never looked back. In the years since, he has built one of the most quietly impressive CVs in South African music — not through noise, but through the thing that actually matters on a bandstand: serving the music.
As a session bassist, Freeman has played with and recorded for some of South Africa’s most recognised names — spanning hip-hop, gospel, jazz, Afrosoul, and beyond. His reach extends internationally, having worked with Earnest Dawkins (USA) and Fabrizio Savino (Italy), and across the continent with Bhila (Zimbabwe).
His most notable live moments include performing with Easy Freak on the Calum Scott World Tour, the landmark Brenda Mtambo — My Grandmother’s Hymns Live at Soweto Theatre, and The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz with Mpumi Dhlamini.
Beyond live performance, Freeman has created and recorded with a wide range of artists including Tellaman, Ndaba Mkhize, Nontokozo Mkhize ft. Joyous Celebration, Swazi Dlamini, Lastee, Mthunzi, Mzizi, Makhanj, and many more.
He is also an active church musician — grounded in spiritual music and the discipline that comes from playing week after week for a congregation that demands consistency over flash.

Not a factory. Not a formula. A structured approach that still leaves room for who you are.
